Getting started · Telehealth in Massachusetts and Rhode Island
A clear path, start to finish
Starting psychiatric care shouldn't require a second job's worth of phone calls. Here is the whole path, every step in order, and a plain-English guide to how fees work. Fit is confirmed before anything is scheduled, and if I'm not the right doctor for what you need, I'll say so and help you find who is.
The path
Five steps, none of them rushed
-
Send the inquiry form
Start with the short inquiry form: who care is for and what you’re looking for. No medical details are needed at this stage. You’ll hear back within 3 business days.
-
Fit is confirmed
I review every inquiry myself and confirm fit before anything is scheduled: whether this practice is right for what you need, how I work, and fees, which are confirmed in writing before any appointment. If I’m not the right fit, I’ll tell you promptly and point you toward someone who is.
-
Intake paperwork & records
If we move forward, you’ll receive intake paperwork, consent forms, and a secure way to share records: school reports, prior evaluations, notes from other clinicians. Send whatever you have; I read all of it before we meet, so the first appointment isn’t spent catching me up. The intake forms also ask what would make visits easier for you, so we can plan for that from day one.
-
A first appointment of 90 to 120 minutes
Typically within 1 to 2 weeks once fit is confirmed. With your records already read, the full 90 to 120 minutes belong to you: your story, your questions, and the beginning of a plan we build together.
-
Ongoing care
Follow-up visits at the rhythm your plan calls for, with the same doctor every time, and enough time in each visit to actually talk. Weekday and some weekend availability.
Visits
Where and how visits happen
By video, anywhere in Massachusetts and Rhode Island
Visits are by video, wherever you are in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. One requirement I can’t bend: during a telehealth visit you must be physically located in Massachusetts or Rhode Island, because the law follows where the patient is sitting.
In person when the case calls for it
In-person appointments are also available in Massachusetts, and may be necessary depending on the case and the evaluation process. We can move between video and in-person visits as your needs change. When medication is part of a plan, prescribing follows all federal and state requirements, and periodic in-person visits may be required.
In English or Turkish
Visits are available in English and Turkish, whichever is more comfortable for you or your child. And a parent, partner, or trusted support person is welcome to join your visits, as a matter of course.
Fees & insurance
Independent by design
Attuna is a self-pay, out-of-network practice, by design, not by accident. That one decision is what makes everything else on this page possible: first appointments of 90 to 120 minutes, follow-ups with room to think, and one doctor whose recommendations are never dictated by an insurance company. What you and I decide is right for your care is what your care will be.
You won’t find numbers on this page, on purpose: fees are discussed before anything is scheduled and confirmed in writing before any appointment. You’ll never be guessing.
The practice is not in-network with any insurance plan and is not accepting Medicare.
Using your out-of-network benefits, in plain English
After each visit you’ll receive a superbill, an itemized receipt with the standard codes insurers require. If your plan includes out-of-network benefits, you can submit it for possible reimbursement. Three phone-call-sized steps:
- Call your insurer at the member-services number on your card and ask whether your plan includes out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits.
- Ask two follow-ups: What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much of it have I met? And once it’s met, what percentage of the fee is reimbursed?
- Submit the superbill we provide. Most insurers accept them online or by mail, and any reimbursement comes back to you directly.
Reimbursement depends entirely on your plan and isn’t guaranteed, which is why that first phone call is worth making before care begins.
HSA & FSA funds
Health Savings Account and Flexible Spending Account funds can typically be used to pay for visits.
Good Faith Estimate
Before starting care, every patient receives a Good Faith Estimate of expected costs, as provided under the federal No Surprises Act.
Cancellation policy
The practice has a cancellation policy, and you’ll receive it in writing before you book your first appointment, so the ground rules are clear before anything is scheduled.
